Creative workshops for new art-work at Leamington Hastings

Over the last few weeks, a small team of trainee wood-carvers have been meeting in Steve Eggleton’s barn in Banham to work on the latest art-work.   It will be sited in the south porch of All Saints church in Leamington Hastings, Warwickshire.

It comprises two carved oak balconies, which will be fitted on each side of the porch. One balcony is full of singers. The opposite one is full of musicians.  The art-work features the words of Paul to the Ephesians “Sing and make melody in your hearts to the Lord. Speak to one another with psalms hymns and spiritual songs.”

The congregation at Leamington Hastings is quite small, so in order to involve them in the art-work, they have been asked for photographs of each other. Working from these photographs, first of all in clay, the endeavour has been to put the congregation into the art-work.

Everyone attending the workshop has enjoyed the whole enterprise.  “It is great fun and we are looking forward to meeting the people in the flesh.  We hope they won’t be too shocked at our skills in portraiture!”
